Saturday: party!
Jun. 26th, 2021 11:03 pmI walked with M.
I hosted a party! 12 people came, and there were three of us, and there were never more than 9 in the house at one time. (I know, right, we could have done it under most of the tighter gathering limits). We had the slider and a bunch of windows open, right up until the last hour of the party, when the temperature inside had drifted up to almost 80 and R. shut it all up and turned the AC on — our remaining two guests were completely fine with that.
We had a lot of great conversations. Three visitors were children (I believe the two younger children were the only unvaxed attendees — I didn’t check and I did not ask for this party, but everyone had been sharing information for months, so it was pretty clear); I put out smaller lego sets, and any kid who did a set and wanted to bring it home could. That was _really_ successful, so after the party, I ordered more. I don’t normally buy smaller sets, and often take forever to do them, but I now intend to keep those around as entertainment. Adult parties can be very trying for kids; anything that makes it a good time is awesome.
R. bought some seltzer and some “normal beer” (I think he bought Magic Hat), but it was a remarkably sober crowd. One person brought wine; I think two glasses were poured and that was it. It was mostly water, and a few snacks. We didn’t even grill anything. Someone brought a pie; someone else brought a cake. Someone brought some Trader Joe’s mini-samosas and chicken rolls. I put out some cheese and crackers and fruit and veg and single serve packages of chips, but it was mostly just a hang out and chat environment. R. got out the brisket; it was really good, too, and made nice sandwiches. I made some grilled cheese for A. and two of the visiting children.
As parties go, this was really small, and extremely laid-back. But just _having_ an indoor party is pretty exciting right now, and I was so happy to get to shake hands with some, hug others and share space with all. I’ve already pinned down the date for the next one, July 24.
Easiest clean-up, ever, too.
