I spent the first two decades of my life (and a bit more) in Shoreline, which is now a city immediately north of Seattle, but that happened after I left. While I was there, it was unincorporated King County. After a brief period of time in Ballard, I moved to Capitol Hill, where I stayed for a number of years. I attended the University of Washington, worked at DEC, Spry (yeah, no one else remembers it anymore) and Amazon (which you probably have heard of by now, but when I worked there, I still had to explain why I was working at an obscure mail order bookstore to people who thought I’d do better at some place like Microsoft).

Post-retirement (see above), I briefly entertained the idea of law school, but decided I’d rather spend my time walking up hills outdoors and taking dips in mountain lakes. That was fun for a while, so I took it on the road and traveled around the country seeing friends, family and hiking. I settled in on the East Coast late in 2003 and got married in 2004. we now have two children and live in the ‘burbs in Massachusetts. Good news: some really excellent restaurants have opened up in nearby towns.

We are trying to get out to Seattle every couple of years. In the meantime, this blog is my way of keeping up with distant friends and family, so we don’t wind up spending all our time together in person (or on the phone) rehashing recent life events but can immediately jump to whatever it is we’re currently fascinated by — just as if we were in the same city and seeing each other more often.

The “kids” are teenagers now (and one is now an adult), and we are planning a retirement home elsewhere in the state.
