HSBC had been making people hot desk, but execs had their own offices on their own floor. Not any more. Now , in theory, the execs would be hot desking with everyone else.
Levine’s assessment amounts to, kinda more fair, except for this: “Hot desking seems unpleasant enough without the risk that one day you might accidentally sit next to the CEO.”
I think he may have missed this bit from the FT article he quoted from and linked to:
“I won’t be in the office five days a week. I think it’s unnecessary . . . It’s the new reality of life.”
The reality here is that the executives are not planning on ever being in the office again. They were only in the office half the time pre-covid, due to travel. They fundamentally never plan on being there again. They will either be in meeting / collaborative space, traveling, or at home. Probably a second or nth home in a very nice climate with delightful amenities.
