I bought an Awair. I had been saying numerous times to numerous people how I really wanted there to be indoor air monitoring and regulation so we could tell when indoor air was meeting quality requirements for the before times (minimum) and ideally to a level with outdoor air, so that it would reduce airborne disease transmission risks (obviously covid now, but in general).

So I plugged it in, got the app, connected it to wifi and took a look at its readings in the kitchen. 854 on the CO2 reading. Not. What. I. Was. Hoping. For.! I contemplated my options, went over to the Nest and turned on the house fan. That has gotten it down to 783. It is a nice day. Perhaps I will open some windows or something.

I can easily see that this kind of thing could be a bit of a rabbit hole.

ETA: Speaking of it becoming a bit of a rabbit hole, I held it up to my mouth and breathed out on it a couple of times and popped the CO2 up to 1088. Hmmmm. ETAYA: Actually, there is some kind of smoothing or something, because it then popped up over 3000. I’m really starting to grasp the value of social distancing here. I mean, I totally got it anyway, but metrics!

ETA: Cooking next to this thing is HILARIOUS! Turn on the oven, air quality drops. Spray oil in a pan, air quality drops. This is fantastic. Also, wow, running the house fan makes a big difference on CO2 just always.
