Linesman, S.K. Dunstal
Jul. 4th, 2023 11:28 amI enjoyed another series by Dunstal, so I bought more by them. This is quite different — POV characters are male (Ean and Jordan). There are numerous, awesome women characters, tho. Lots of interesting perspectives on social class, and what kinds of things people do to each other and whether it is possible to subsequently work with them or not, trust them, how much, how you manage that, etc.
Reading this feels like a construction trade worker perspective on a job that as a practical matter is basically like participating in an opera. It is so weird. It is good, tho! There are a surprising number of science fiction universes in which travel around the universe involves some form of music. Even within that weird niche, this one is pretty strange and delightful.
I definitely expect to read the next one, as the POV includes a woman, but I have not already bought it so I will probably keep reading things I already own, as that continues to be very rewarding.
(I think line 7 is administration. What do you think?)
