Sunday: track, zooms, long walk, lock
Nov. 21st, 2021 11:00 pmR. took T. to track.
A. had a portal playdate with K.
A. had an English portfolio assignment to update her portfolio, but she didn’t have a portfolio set up. I went back through her google classroom, found the missing Create the Portfolio assignment, did that with / for her, and then walked her through the update process. It was basically, add elements to a padlet, say a few sentences about the thing, include a link to the thing. The link didn’t seem like it was working, so she’ll check on that at school tomorrow. Her resistance to doing English assignments is simultaneously annoying and hilarious.
I did a long walk.
R. has been struggling to figure out the best way to get the new smart lock (a Schlage) to talk with other elements of home electronics. Looks like we are going to be getting one of the recent big Echo’s and putting it probably in the living room, because we need one that has the Zigbee hub built in. While I was trying to understand what he was doing and why, I remembered that I had seen the Echo Show 15 pre-order info, and so I took a better look at that, did some poking around on reddit, and some measuring. I’ve ordered the new show, and I think it is going to replace the DAKboard. R. will have to hang it, but the cord should be long enough for it to go into exactly the same spot, and it’ll have the added benefit of a touch screen, which the DAKboard does not have, and so it should be possible to scroll the calendar. There is a Show in the kitchen already, so it was already possible to modify the calendar by talking to the Show, altho I am not sure anyone ever did that. This should be a much better solution.
