Today was the first day of eligibility for my husband and I. Our children are not yet eligible, as they are both, as yet, under 16 — there is no vaccine that is allowed to be given them, even if they had all kinds of risks (and they do have some). Youth, however, is vastly protective against covid as against many, but not all, other things. And so we hope they will be okay and focus on staying alive long enough to continue to assist with their development.

My husband is eligible in two different ways: he is over 55, and he is overweight (but not obese, or morbidly obese). The overweight is kind of a joke — he is quite visibly muscular and lean, but BMI only cares about height and weight, not composition. I am eligible in one way: I am obese (not actually a joke, altho people are pretty believable when they say they don’t think of me as obese, merely overweight. I am both muscular and fat).

We had long ago pre-registered with the state for the mass vaccination sites, but last night, we started poking around at CVS to see if it would let us in. Not yet! He tried after midnight, when it would, but no bueno. I went to bed.

I got up in the morning after checking to see if he had succeeded, got through the morning routine, and then started hammering away at CVS. Still no love! I read about strategies. I talked to R. when he came downstairs. I got it to give me a first shot, failed to come up with a second and timed out. I ate lunch. I went back to CVS.

Holy moly! I got a second shot! I was in! When he came down from bridge a little after 1 pm, we got him in a day later but otherwise the same location. Could. Not. Believe. It. So exciting! So, I’m thinking about pre-emptively canceling my hair appointment (or moving it a week later, or I don’t know) because I might feel like absolute crap for a couple days.

The shots bracket a long-planned trip that we still are not sure we will take. But not having to choose between trip and shot is a winner for me, and being a week and a half after the shot is a winner for R. I guess we’ll see what the immediate future holds for us. I mean, after the great news, R. went for a bike ride, hit a rock at 35 mph in Bolton and managed not to die or even break anything. I went to pick him and the bike up after A. got done with school.

I meant to work on taxes today, but between the rescue operation and the Try To Get An Appointment distraction, I never did. Maybe tomorrow! Maybe I’ll clean my house instead. ;-)
