Monday: minecraft camp
Jun. 22nd, 2020 01:07 pmToday is the first day of A.’s minecraft camp. Like our recent trip to Hilton Head DVC, this was scheduled in the Before Times. Now, it is a virtual camp. That turned out to be a lucky thing because Hilton Head DVC opened up in time for us to actually take that trip, which means we are not actually supposed to be doing anything outside for the next couple weeks (I am still going for walks, but I am now wearing a mask, especially when indoors with my walking partner hanging out after).
We needed to get Minecraft Java edition working for A. to do the camp. While on vacation, we set her new Pixelbook Go up to run that (registered at Mojang, downloaded linux and the game, installed everything, then fixed the mouse lock problem). It seemed to be running fine. Once we were home, I attached the pixelbook go to an old Mac Thunderbolt Display. That did absolutely nothing — the display did not activate. So .... I gave up, and hooked her up to my current display which seemed sort of fine, but it was not letting her have Discord on her laptop screen and Minecraft on the main screen. I had her turn off fullscreen (she wanted to get rid of the white bar at the top of the screen) and that fixed that problem. All was well, but she had very low frame rate once she was doing camp and connecting to the camp’s minecraft world. They tried a LOT of different things. Finally, I said, hey, let’s just disconnect this display and see if it is still a problem on the laptop. That fixed the problem. I will need to research WHY that was a problem, because even the tech guy on the camp side was surprised that made a difference. I did not expect that to do anything, but I am a big believer in removing as many complicating factors as possible when solving a technical problem, and boy howdy did that come through for me here. She came down for lunch, but brought her iPad which is where she is running zoom, and got to hang out with campers and watch a video and play some other game with them during lunch. She has since returned to her room. She is actually even more independent with this day camp than she was with school; I am sort of impressed.
T. and I spent a bunch of time discussing what our rules are for self-quarantine. He had a dermatology appointment tomorrow. I asked R. to tell them that we have been traveling and get permission to go in before they went. The appointment has been rescheduled. R. also has a dental appointment coming up in a little over a week (but within the 14 day quarantine). It is in New Hampshire, so we had to look up all their rules. I am defaulting to, hey, tell them before you go. Probably.
I am also taking temperatures of everyone in the house (still need to get A.’s). It is not much, but it is something.
I am feeling pretty clever for having brought the cooler (the mary poppins one) on this trip, and bringing as much of the food home that we bought that we could; we are pretty set for several days, and will figure out something after that.
We are unpacked and laundry has been done. I caught up on TRMS last night.
When T. had his lunch on the deck today (I made him another pizza — that is what he had for dinner last night, too. We got a box of crusts from Essential Baking. I love their shelf stable product.), I noticed that there was a bunch of pollen, and, mysteriously, a puddle on the cot. Upon further investigation (I brought the vacuum out to deal with the pollen), I realized that (a) R. was watering the lawn and (b) had incorrectly aligned the sprinkler. Overnight. *sigh* I called him on T.’s phone. He came down to turn it off (that is when I found out it was overnight). I told him, hey, there is a watering ban on. He was like, yeah, I know, it is alternate days. I went, no it is not, it is a ban. He investigated (thank goddess, I am no longer having to actually prove every damn thing to everyone in this house anymore. All that screaming did actually accomplish something) and realized, d’oh, I was right (duh). He kept saying, I missed that. I kept saying, I told you that. Apparently, he persisted in hearing “alternate day ban” when I kept saying, “wow, there is a total watering ban. That’s weird”. I am too tired to scream about it, tho. Later, I vacuumed up the pollen from the dry spots.
