Sunday: In Which We Return Home
Jun. 21st, 2020 11:00 pmOur last day! Sad, but also looking forward to being home, so probably the vacation purpose has been served.
I had packed up a bunch last night, so it was mostly get up, get dressed, have breakfast, brush teeth, pack everything else up including food and electronics, triple check that we did not forget everything. We did forget to tip housekeeping. Ooops.
We drove to the airport uneventfully. We returned the car, ditto. We got through security, altho that was tricky. I had accidentally packed an applesauce squeezer in my backpack which they completely failed to notice. They did, however, want to go through the entire cooler to take a look at the gel freezer packs, all of which were fine.
They also had to rerun T.’s bags, because we kept telling him to remove all electronics and he kept not doing it.
Oh well! It is not like there was a line or anything.
We got to the gate, then went over to the one open restaurant (other than the ice cream place) and got lunch. The PGA Tour Grill has a super limited menu, and they only have the crappy cherries, but their unsweet tea is excellent, their knob manhattans are powerful, the waffle fries are tasty, the burger and the chicken sandwich are both fine, but the plain wings are fantastic.
It got busy as we were wrapping up.
We boarded our plane, had an uneventful flight (more full than the one down on Monday). We got back a little early, which time savings was entirely consumed by some mysterious problem getting the jetway connected. We got our bags, paid for our parking, and drove home.
We unpacked and started laundry. I watched a week of TRMS episodes. I made pizza for T., and another one for R. and me. I made A. a grilled cheese sandwich.
A very, very smooth reentry, unless you include the endless discussion of what exactly are the rules for the next few days. I told R. to tell the dermatologist for T.’s appointment that we had traveled. I decided I would walk with M., but only if no one had a temperature the next morning AND I would wear a mask the whole time. Which is more than I did during the entire shutdown earlier, but the situation is a little different now.
It was good to travel and it is good to be back.
