I had been wondering about this, and was a little confused that I hadn't seen any commentary sooner. Either I'm just not paying close enough attention, or there's enough other stuff going on that people don't have the energy, or, mostly likely, last year people were really _hoping_ that back to school would save their butts. But those butts are long lost now, and we're all contemplating the lack-of-shopping in apathetic gloom instead of histrionic doom.
