This year, Heritage bird from Lilac Hedge. I let the normal order with minor edits stay, so lots of stuff went directly from frozen in the box to into the chest freezer.

The bird, however, and a few items packed with the bird (some pork sausage, specifically) have never been frozen (well, the bird for sure not). I figured that sausage can go into the stuffing, since none of the veg* invitees have confirmed and we can always cook separate stuff if they are belated arrivals. I’m also thawing one of the steaks for A., because she ate all of the steaks we already had in the freezer.

The bird looks good, not one of those leggy ones from a couple years back. Should be yum.

I emptied the massive bag of apples into one of the drawers after combining everything else into the other drawer. Fridge still looks weirdly empty. We’ve been running it incredibly lean for a while now. I will go shopping before T-day — probably tomorrow, altho possibly later today. A. has a potluck on Tuesday that I committed a veg platter to.

It’s gonna be a busy week, with the stairs going in and R. going out Monday and me going out Tuesday and no school for A. on Wednesday, and T. arriving tomorrow and sticking around through Sunday. I’m happy to not be traveling, and feeling very okay with additional people either arriving or not. Fingers crossed and I hope everyone else is looking at the coming week with some amount of pleasant anticipation and not too much stress. I know at least some of my family in PacNW are (were until yesterday for sure) still without power; hopefully that gets resolved soon.

R. went orienteering for the first time in a long while.
