I had a weird long phone call with my sister, but on balance I enjoyed talking with her, and we’ll try chatting again on Monday. I’m going to try to talk her through things like meme posts on FB, and why people do that kind of thing.
A. is still not back at school.
I walked with M.; we picked a half hour when it wasn’t even drizzling.
I made a birthday cake for A. T. came over and had a slice and we chatted for a bit. Then he took some back with him to college. We’re seeing a lot of him, and it’s quite enjoyable.
I got some information about Cardinal 340 glass aka Marvin’s Low ELR. Based on a new understanding of it, I went over the house and identified which windows it made sense to me / us to use it on. R. changed his mind on some after taking it out on a cloudy day. We’re mostly limiting it to super impossible to put window treatments on windows and/or in rooms where no one will be spending time (corridors). I sent an email to the architect and the builder project managers with my selections and invited response.
I wrote a check to the builder.
I finally got it together enough to set up one of the new slide decks. I did the Main Kitchen first, and it has 11 slides — the schematic, the RCP, the windows / doors (just the one door so far), Plumbing, Mechanicals (HVAC), Electrical (outlets and such), lighting plan (from electrical, and wildly out of date — this is the recessed lighting one that I spiked months ago), structural, fire protection, the preliminary design from the architect that I decided NOT to go with, and my own drawings.
That worked out pretty well, so I did the Walk Through Closet next: schematic, doors and window, RCP, Mechanicals (HVAC), Structural, preliminary design that was totally removed from the project (not replaced with another design at least not yet). I have more that probably needs to be added to this (electrical and fire protection). I’m doing these in order of Wow Did We Find Shit Under These Rocks. Basically, we’ve already found massive problems by looking at Mechanicals (HVAC) and then realizing there were clues all over the place that we completely missed. I figure once I get the hang of this, I’m just going to churn through every single closet in the house, because I think I can answer the question of Which Closets Are Usable by going through this process.
