No school or meetings, other than book group. I read Wavewalker, and then we talked about it. It was terrifying but also really good, very reminiscent of Tara Westover’s _Educated_, also _Glass Castle_, Steinem’s _On the Road_ (the early life part, that is). These are all stories of girls who have erratic organized education because they are dragged hither and yon by a nutty parent/parents, often exposed to serious injury and always at risk and isolated from anyone outside their nutty nuclear family.

You really can tell what the problem is, when you read the family’s reactions in the press. They say stuff is in the book that absolutely is not there (straw man, but also it’s hard to read about something you know very well and maintain a boundary between the text and your own recollections). And they perceive neutral-to-positive descriptions as actively hostile. It’s just odd. It’s super awkward having your life on display. On the other hand, maybe should have thought of that before being so completely unconventional. Like, if you are going to blow off so much of social convention and norms, expecting normies to like you is just odd.

Good stuff, lots to think about.
