I found this after having a delightful phone conversation with J. We did some travel planning for next year, which was fun. I was interrupted by a call from a financial person, in which I learned that openAI is raising money from … people at my level. LOL. Not from me, tho. Definitely not from me.
At the end of our call, because I didn’t want to dive deeply into it at this time, I told J. about the thinking I had been doing about listening, and how it isn’t really taught anywhere and how that is a problem. I want to talk about this on Friday as a group because I believe that the conversation will spark a lot of really useful and interesting stuff that might be otherwise tricky to access. J. immediately dove in tho, with a breakdown of how he listens differently in different contexts. He’s clearly thought about this a lot, and presented it very coherently, which is why I went looking for more on types of listening. What I found was not what he described. The lack of standardized curricula around the activity of listening in our society is probably why there is so much variation. I want to know more! Looking forward to lots of really interesting stories and tidbits and ideas and information.
