The Mysteries of Verizon
Oct. 10th, 2023 07:17 pmI replaced my Apple Watch, because Battery, and decided not to continue with the cellular option. So I canceled that part of my Verizon service. It was due to take effect a few days ago. Around the time that took effect, my cell phone stopped being able to take incoming phone calls. I did not notice. I was able to make outgoing phone calls, and texting was working so how would I ever know, right? Well, I learned when the school said in email that they couldn’t reach me. And A. said last night she couldn’t reach me so she called R.
I tried calling my cell from the landline and yeah, error message. Number not in service error message. What?
I do some trouble shooting, give up, go through tier 1 chat service at Verizon. I tell both tier 1 and tier 2 about the Watch; they both thank me and blow it off. I also tell them there’s this weird thing where the calls partial ring through but then end, and they are marked on the phone as having been answered on another device. But multiple rounds of *73 don’t change anything at all. And R.’s efforts to call the landline do NOT work, altho mine do. I mention this all to Tier 2 at Verizon, and they’re like, let’s focus on the cell phone.
We go through all the trouble shooting rounds up to and including reset phone to factory and restore from backup. Nothing changes. Tier 2 is slow with the next suggestion, so I decide to try *73 over on the landline, to see if I can at least get that to work for calls from a number OTHER than my cell. The landline is set to Always On forward to my cell, so that is probably why I can call it, but everyone else gets the same error that I keep getting on the cell phone. I ask A. to call the landline after I *73 it, and she does … and I successfully answer it on my cell.
What the actual fuck.
I have her call my cell phone. _That now works_. I use the landline to call my cell phone. _That now works_. I have Priestess call my cell phone. _That now works_.
Everything is fine. Tier 2 is finally suggesting that I delete the Watch app on the phone and I’m saying, what, no, didn’t you see my last three messages. It’s all working now. Do you need anything from me, because other than massive confusion, my problems are fixed. Tier 2 is further confusing. I try to clarify. Tier 2 does NOT want to talk about the landline. _But *73 on the landline is what fixed my cell phone_. And, I might note, the landline continues to forward.
If you know how this all went down, I’d love to know. Certainly, Tier 2 had no clue. I wish I’d focused on the land line solution earlier, because that would have fixed everything very quickly.
Oh well!
If reset and restore from backup messed up my phone I’m going to be annoyed, obviously, but so far it looks okay.
Also, in the middle of all this, my credit card company said they blocked a charge based on probable fraud and was that actually me? And I’m like, nope. Further, *sigh*
