Bike ride, Efteling
Aug. 8th, 2023 11:00 pmBread was in a bag hanging from the door when I came down at 8:30 am, so that worked out. The apple and maple mini crowns are truly mini. Everything was tasty, altho A. did not get to the chocolate croissant.
We did not get into the park at 9:30, but we got in around 10 am. A. and I did Joris en de draak (George and the Dragon), a dual wooden coast. Fun! Beats you up a bit, tho. I bought the length of stay / 3 day digital photo pass there. Then we did de Vliegende Hollander (The Flying Dutchman), and successfully added the photo there. We walked over to Station Oost and had appelflappen (vegan throughout the park, as near as I can tell — I asked at this location) and I had koffie and she had appelsap. We took the train to Marelijk, and we did Droomvlucht (Dreamflight) and bought some stuff in the shop. Love that shop. Continuing to add photos. Yay!
We hate Villa Volta so we skipped it. We did the steam carousel. We had lunch at Het Witte Paard (The White Horse), and I had the chicken satay with peanut sauce. Turns out boring green veg is tasty with peanut sauce which I kinda already knew from rama garden. It is not served with rice, but with fries, which is very Dutch and very weird. Peanut sauce on fries probably immoral but tasty.
I accidentally forgot my new Frys hat there, went back to get it, it was no longer where I had left it. I explained to the people who were now sitting where we had been sitting (in Dutch) but it had not been there when they arrived. Cleaning up happens quick in the Netherlands! Or at least at this particular restaurant on this particular day. I asked a woman, and she looked in the back and gave it to me. Fantastic!
We went on Vogel Rok and Sirocco, and checked out Kashba, which has a lot of vegetarian options. I initially thought Vega meant Vegan, but it does not, sadly. Oh well! We were looking for the toadstool looking cupcake but they did not have it. We walked over to Pardoeslaan where we had bought the appelflap the day before, and while the donut shop did not have it, they had it where we bought the appelflap yesterday. Success! A. says it was not anywhere near as good at the appelflap, tho.
We returned to the hotel.
We rested a bit. R. had rented a Dutch bike and biked for couple hours around the dunes. Good for him! He was hungry, and interested in dinner, but I had promised A. swimming and I had zero interest in food yet. The lunch with the peanut sauce was very filling. We swam, which was great, and rinsed out swimsuits, and then I got panicky about laundry, so I did a bunch of laundry in the tub after the swimsuits. R. had spotted the drying rack, so set that up. R. had made a reservation at the Eethuis for 6:30, so we did that next. We discussed allergies, and wound up with steaks, plain vegetables and nothing else. I feel like we made some important error here, but it was quite healthy. A. had the kids chicken. I read for a bit before going to sleep.
