I’ve been getting phone calls from BMW. Usually it’s from the local dealer — do you still like your new car? Any confusion? Any problems? And I’m always like, it’s fantastic, I love it, it’s all good.
Today, I got a call from somewhere further up the food chain, and they observed that I have two of their electric cars now, and I’m like, love ‘em both. Then he asked: is there anything you’d like to tell us?
Ah, yeah, actually! Two things.
One: I’d love it if you would let me put a new battery in the i3 that gave it more range. He wanted to know, do you have a particular amount more range? I said, “More”. There was a pause and an almost chuckle.
Two: I’d love it if I could use one or both of the cars for bidirectional charging so I could use it as backup power for my house. A little pause, and then, we did do a pilot . . . And I said, yup, Munich, I know. And then acknowledgement that these were things I wanted and they would be relayed up.
I -did- note repeatedly that I wasn’t expecting them to actually do either. And none of those remarks generated anything like how nice that you are realistic. Which is unusual! I’m used to people commiserating and saying, yeah, nothing’s ever gonna change forreal, right?
I have no idea what is going on with telephone customer service these days. It’s weird. It’s delightful. But it is weird.
