We attempted to have lunch at Gutside, but it was not open. We went to Chez Fernand instead, and had sandwiches there and bought a loaf of bread for tomorrow. The sandwiches were okay. We stopped at the Carrefour in Cole Bay and got groceries and poke around the whole place because that is a thing I. likes to do and I don’t mind because you can learn a lot about a new place by looking over the grocery store.
We rested a bit after that. I. had gone to the beach for a walk earlier, but I didn’t sleep well and had a headache. I’d made tea heating up water in a pot, and it turns out the pot persistently tasted like garlic. I eventually made more tea in the microwave and that was fine. I bought some apple cider vinegar to clean out my water bottle because the tea sitting in it made it taste like garlic, too. I really dislike nonstick pans. There is no way to have a clean stainless steel pan persistently taste like anything, but nonstick does weird things.
We had a dinner reservation at Holland House, so we went to Phillipsburg around 4ish to walk around. It was shut up pretty tight, possibly because no cruise ship today, possibly for the same reason that Gutside Cafe was closed. I think there was some kind of Carneval celebration somewhere on the island where we weren’t. We got a passionfruit gelato (vegan, I think) at Luciano, which was really good. We had drinks at the Holland House bar since we were early for our reservation and the restaurant doesn’t open until 6 pm. The vibe was very similar to Beach House at Pompano, altho I’m sure a purist would say that Beach House is imitating this kind of Caribbean restaurant. In any event, really pleasant, great service, good food.
