I abandoned my husband and daughter to the inbound storm, and got on a flight to St Maarten, where I met my friend I., picked up a rental car, and drove out to Orient Bay on the French side. Our Airbnb is lovely. We had dinner at Roasty’s, where I ordered a tuna poke, only to discover they used quinoa instead of rice (why), also there was mango involved. Whatever. The tuna was good, and there were other vegetables. I hadn’t really had much lunch either — I got the eat up 2, which had pita chips and hummus. I brought larabars so it’s not like I was in danger of starving.

We stopped at the Petit Casino and picked up bread, jam, water and chocolate, and some mandarins to hold us over until we can get to a Carrefour tomorrow.

Flight was uneventful. I had already filled out the entry form online a few days earlier and while I. had to talk to an in person entry agent because I had failed to share the address of the rental with her, I did not. Because I did so much travel recently, I have Mosaic status, so I got to bored first after wheelchairs. That’s novel.

I had the presence of mind to buy and download the audible of Sue Prideaux’s Wild Thing which is next month’s book group selection, so I got a chunk of the way through that and it was really enjoyable.
