Saturday: planning
Aug. 17th, 2024 11:24 amI did some laundry. I went down to pick up breakfast (which I’ve been doing every day). R. is not riding his bike today, so I planned a lunch and a dinner that involves driving and parking. We’re going to try for Amy’s, a brunch restaurant over in Pierrefonds, and for dinner we’ve got a reservation for Les Insulaires in Laval. I’m pretty excited about both of them.
ETA:
We went to Amy’s and Amy’s was amazing. Vegan waffles! With chocolate sauce and whipped cream (altho pretty sure it was Cocowhip, which I can only have a little of before the tapioca starts to get to me). So yummy! We bought a half dozen donuts to share with our fellow travelers. 10/10, would recommend. R. got the chicken tenders poutine, and I have Plans for making a version of poutine the next time I roast any kind of beef.
We stopped at a Jean Coutu and bought a pair of atomizers because I forgot to bring a spray bottle for A. to use while doing her hair. Ooops. I had repurposed a Method spray bottle and it was huge. Now we have travel size. Yay!
While there, I also got toothbrushes, because she’s been complaining about white stuff on her tongue so I got her brushes with the tongue scraper stuff on the back of the head of the tooth brush. They didn’t have the metal thing; I’ll probably have to order one of those online.
ETA: Les Insulaires is insanely good. Great cocktails (Pisco Sour and Paper Plane), good wine list, amazing beer (R. had a couple flights and I. got the Irish Red and tried a sampler of the dry stout). One of the archipel’s was the white I had at lunch at Benny & Co — it’s really good, and there was another archipel in there, too. Super tasty.
I had the fish and chips, and it was great. I. got the poutine, and it was good, but way too much. Identical gravy. Similar cheese curds, but slightly dryer. Fries were the kind of greasy but yummy we’ve been getting a fair amount of. I.’s poutine had beef — some kind of pot roast. A.’s burger had too much spices / herbes, so we got her the chicken tenders and those went over great (with honey). I liked the flavor of the burger, so I brought it home (it had no cheese on it, which makes that easy). A. got churros, which were doughy and had a caramel sauce; most of one of those came home. I think we’ve got leftovers enough to not have to go out to eat tomorrow unless we really want to. R. bought 6 cans and a bottle of beer. It was wild driving through Laval and the last few kilometers I was like, oh wow, have I made a horrible mistake. But upon arrival, it was abundantly clear that no mistake was made. It was loud (big 50th birthday party in progress), but other than that perfect in every way.
