Friday: Benny and co, Bank of Montreal
Aug. 16th, 2024 02:16 pmI took A. to Benny and Co for lunch. She didn’t like the spices on the wings, but the chicken breast from my salad, while boring, was okay. Fries were good. Coleslaw was awesome. My salad and the balsalmic dressing was enormous but excellent. 10/10 would return, altho might give some more thought to getting A. something she liked better. Possibly off the kids menu.
Bank of Montreal has a tiny museum that is super cute, which sample bank passbooks, old coin and currency, a bit about the history of Montreal economy and infrastructure development.
Since Benny and Co’s women’s was closed, and even I found it difficult to use the facilities knowing someone was as the urinal just on the other side of the stall door (legit hilarious experience given bathroom politics — the gentleman held the door for me on the way out. We all know how to behave.). Anyway, bathroom at Bank of Montreal existed, but one person was waiting and no one was in and figuring out how to get buzzed in seemed to be not working so we just walked back to the hotel. Where we are now sitting, beveraging and relaxing in the AC.
ETA:
We had dinner at MajesThe Bistro Bar. It was delightful! Food was great — we had a bunch of small plates and shared, because it’s Taiwanese and Montreal is a brunch town so why not. Bar is incredible. I had a manhattan, which was good, but after I realized the extent of the bottles, I asked for a Vieux Carre and the bartender had no idea but turned out a really good one. It was karaoke night. I did AJR’s I’m not famous. Very supportive and friendly group, even tho they were all younger than us, and clearly this was their hangout spot. It’s nice to still be able to find my kind of cool place, even tho I’m way too old to be cool anymore. If you are 18 and over and in Montreal, try to make time for this.
