J. from the builder called. Apparently, it is my job to pick a shower pan for A.’s bathroom, and not from a selection of options because they don’t know either. Because why are we fucking doing this now? In order to get the drain height correct at the rough-in. Which is nice if you can do it and also _no one does it this way and this is why_. Anyway, because J. is delightful and energetic, she has tracked down someone for me to talk through shower pans, and since I’m gonna be picking 5 of them, that’s probably for the best.

Yesterday (was it really just yesterday? It feels like a month ago), the Architect Spec’ed a Wall Tile for Half the Flooring in the House information finally landed with eerie and total silence. I’m pretty sure that this is a component of why I got offered the, Hey Wanna Learn About Shower Pans opportunity. The difference between early years at the ‘Zon and a large construction project is I don’t have to rub people’s noses in their fuck-up-ery. They self-rub. It’s awesome. J. has characterized her new perspective as, “I’ve learned over the last couple weeks that a lot of these decisions never went through you.” True statement.

I want to be clear. I’m writing about all this, not in the spirit of, wow, worst construction project ever. It’s not. It’s actually unusually awesome, especially considering how insane the project is. I’m writing about this in exactly the same spirit in which I wrote about being pregnant and breastfeeding and raising little kids and then just kids and now young adults who have special needs (while being a special needs person myself, but minus the early life diagnosis and support). Time heals by blurring, and forgetting a lot of the details is protective. But sometimes, learning from someone else’s details is validating and helpful. So here I am. Being Helpful. Possibly _differently_ helpful. But helpful.

Also, I’m really sorry, but my readers will probably be learning a lot about showers, drains, tile and other-than-tile options along with me.

ETA: It got really hot today. It’s 6:30 and still 90 degrees out. Kinda crazy.

Piano lesson was moved to today. I finally broke down and called Fidelity (I apparently hit the wrong checkbox when trying to pay a college bill thru the 529 plan page), but then I transposed a couple digits, so I’m going to have to do a second payment to get it to the right amount. However, hopefully I will remember how to do this and will get it right in the future.
