Friday: graduation day!
Jun. 7th, 2024 09:08 amT.’s graduation ceremony is today. Very exciting!
Yesterday, I sat down at my filing cabinet and took things from on top of the filing cabinet and put them into the filing cabinet. And I also took things out of the filing cabinet and sorted them into trash, shred, and recycle. Mostly this was stuff coming out of the vacation file, where ephemera associated with trips goes to live for a while before it either makes it into some kind of album or into a trash, shred, recycle pile. I’ve been thinking about what’s left on the bookshelves that is mine, and there are some very old (pre-kids) travel albums up there that i was thinking of consolidating. Before I started blogging, this kind of file or album was really great for remembering what I did and when on a vacation; now I blog so the ephemera is rarely if ever consulted. I think the last time I went through it, T. wanted to reconstruct a bunch of flights from previous trips, and we mostly did it out of old Sent email and similar.
Anyway, the oldest stuff I ran across was from a 2013 Story Land trip. I don’t usually have any particular emotional impact from going through this sort of thing, but that took a moment to process. Apparently, even I have Moments of Nostalgia, or something adjacent to nostalgia. Altho honestly, we all knew that about me and StoryLand, because I wore that purple StoryLand hat for close to a decade.
I’ve also finally hit the point in house planning where I’m thinking about what I already own (furniture and lighting) that I will want to put in the new house, and where it will go. I’d been avoiding this, because I know there are going to be a lot of custom built-ins, and a lot of what we own is pretty worn. I’m still on the fence about my armchair, which I’ve had reupholstered three times (I think — I might have forgotten one) and my other chair, an Ekorne Stressless, which I _love_ but which is quite worn, and I think I should just plan on replacing. If I replace it before we move, then I’ll move the new one. But if I don’t, I’ll just buy a new one for the new place. I still don’t really know how much overlapping time we’ll have.
I also deleted a couple hundred emails and dealt with about five things in the email (school lunch balance for graduating senior, type of thing).
