Saturday: FBI tip
Apr. 13th, 2024 09:08 amIn yesterday’s email, I was cc’ed on another attempt to sell our land in Northampton, this time by someone at our lawyer’s office who had been contacted by a different realtor at a different agency.
I mentioned this at cocktail zoom, and my friend H. followed up with a link:
https://www.justice.gov/usao-ma/pr/quincy-real-estate-broker-sentenced-real-estate-deposit-scam
I did a search on Victor A. Wild (actually several) and then went over to try to report it, and was directed through a series of pages over to the FBI FAQ and tip pages. So I went through that process and reported the two incidents, including information about the Acton PD report of the original incident (that’ll bring a little inter-agency excitement to the life of the young police officer who collected the information, because I didn’t have the report number and I put her email in the email box associated with the report information on the tip form).
AUSA Wild is part of the team at the US Attorney’s office in Boston, and has prosecuted a _ton_ of cases that are basically just like what someone was trying to do to our property. It will be interesting to learn whether there is interest in pursuing someone attempting this crime as they attempt it, or whether the interest only lies in after the crime has been completed. I honestly have no idea what the right answer is in terms of allocating enforcement resources. I can see arguments going both directions. I was a little startled at just how relentless this stuff is.
