60 when we got up! I drove A. in because Rain. She has an early dismissal today.

I do not normally say much about crypto. However, yesterday’s Matt Levine column had some links! Here is one:

https://www.vice.com/en/article/akvn8z/crypto-bad-for-mental-health

“Klein, one of a handful of experts providing counselling for cryptocurrency addiction, began offering this type of therapy in 2017. He mostly treats men and has patients all over the world. He thinks they come to him because of the heightened demand and the distinct lack of crypto mental health support.”

Five. Years. Growth industry!

May be behind a paywall. I really dislike things that focus on concealed conflict; it feeds into a “the corridors of power” conspiracy thinking / narrative / discourse. Sure, people have differences of opinions. And everything takes longer than anticipated. At the beginning of the year, TRMS covered rumors about an OSHA rule requiring masks. It took longer than anticipated — and was ultimately withdrawn. It’s just not clear to me that any of that really needed that much coverage — or at least, not that type of coverage in that time frame. But, whatever; all my journalist friends tell me I don’t understand journalism. Altho given how many old-skool newspapers I subscribe to (digital only), it’s a weird statement. I’m their best individual customer (people who pay for enterprise subscriptions for like a company or school or whatever are obviously better customers than me). If I don’t understand journalism after a decade plus of subscribing to this shit (and much longer reading it), there might be a problem, and it might not be with me.

THAT ASIDE!

“Federal agencies have taken a scatter-shot approach to digital assets over the past several years and Biden’s team is facing pressure to lead on the issue. Industry executives often bemoan what they say is a lack of clarity on U.S. rules and others worry that an embrace by China and other nations of government-backed coins could threaten the dollar’s dominance.”

No slam on the journalism here! Not this paragraph anyway; it is an accurate and succinct summary, neutral and pretty comprehensive. But also, “OMG we might miss out on the speculative fever stage! Gah!” That is NOT what the article is saying — but without saying who is saying it, it captures the crazy well!

We were originally supposed to fly on Saturday, but they moved our flight really late and I just didn’t want to risk that blowing the beginning of the trip, so I took the free move and switched to today. Unfortunately, we wound up losing our preferred row (did get the Extra Leg Room charge refunded, but somehow the pre-paid bags got lost so I had to repay for those. Oh well! I didn’t get charged for overweight in December, so it mostly evens out). A. had a half day; we took T. out at the same time (at lunch, basically) and we drove in and parked, since we figured (correctly) the garage would not be crazy full on the Friday before February vacation week.

We then had a series of in-plane delays: wait to get a takeoff slot, pilot decided he didn’t have enough fuel, go refuel, return, wait to get another takeoff slot. All told, left an hour and a half late for a 3 hour flight. *sigh*

Fortunately, we had eaten (Wahlburger’s) ahead of time.

Garden Grocer was at bell services before we even got off the ground and no order errors at all this time. I had done a cash reservation (that’s a shocking price!) for the village for the extra night, as borrowing limits continue to apply and I’d used up all of mine plus maxing out the borrow limits. It was set as a continuing and there were no hiccups, which was delightful.
