M. and I had a visit but not a walk today, because it is drizzling and windy and generally Not Very Nice outside.

We are waiting on the math riddle for R. to help A. with it. I took a look at it, and decided that it was his turn.

R. took my car in to have winter tires swapped for regular tires. This took longer than he expected, and they tried to sell other services, which he was not amused by. I mean, I was paying, but he was aggravated that it was time consuming. I was just happy that I could get the tires swapped, honestly. I was not sure they would do the service, or count it as not essential or whatever, but apparently if you are essential enough to be open, they are not picky beyond that. All righty then. R. has evolved a method of bringing a cleaning towel with him in a baggie, so he can sanitize surfaces that he has to touch. I am sort of impressed, honestly.

T., R. and A. had virtual piano lessons. Months or more likely years ago, I used to prop an iPad up to point at the TV screen, so that A. could play atomic hangman with her cousins and aunt via FaceTime. The relatives got tired of it, so that stopped, but in the course of doing that, I learned some tricks about setting up a device with a camera for weird teleconferencing games. I got the stepladder out, put my laptop on it, set up Zoom and then I used FaceTime to my son's phone (muted, to deal with feedback; should have turned audio off but could not be bothered to find the setting) to position the laptop correctly. Worked like a charm. R. went last, and pulled the setup a little closer so that the instructor, F., could see the keyboard of the piano a little better, but the height and angle was apparently perfect. Go me! I was so inspired, that I asked T. if I should try to set up virtual martial arts lessons for him. He is game, so I have emailed his instructor, with lists of ways we can communicate, and ways we can easily send payment, to show that we are serious and we are not asking for some kind of favor.

Carolyn Hax had an extra chat today at WaPo, and I now realize that a lot of people perceive descriptions of successful activities as HumbleBragging, and who knows, maybe I am. Mostly, when I post here, it is intended to be a way of keeping up with my mundane daily life, with people who live on the opposite coast. What may look like HumbleBragging is me making a conscious effort to be grateful, as well as to share the things in my life that make me happy and excited, with the people I love, who I am not near. I hope that this can be read in the spirit it is intended.
