I walked with M.

Today, A. has a math assignment, instead of a math challenge. The assignment had several parts. There was a video of the teacher, and the teacher's daughter, weighing the Redwood turtles the class had been feeding during the year (and the teacher took home to continue feeding). That was fun! I had met the turtles a couple times and it is good to see them thriving. There was a video of how to do a chart in google sheets (ripped from youtube eduvlogger of some sort). Finally, there was a google sheet with all the monthly weigh-ins for the turtles so far this year, including the one in the video. The assignment was to create a line graph of the turtle weights, put appropriate labels on, write a little about what you think about the turtles growth over time and predict what they might weigh next month.

This was an amazing assignment! I mean first and foremost, turtles! And we like the teacher and seeing her video was fun to see her and meet her daughter. Second, I do not know if I have ever done a linegraph in a spreadsheet so I learned things. A. had lots of fun customizing the graph. I showed A. how to copy the read-only sheet with the data, rename it, and then we figured out how to start a graph and wow did it just sort of populate it pretty reasonably! I also showed A. how to attach it to the assignment in google classroom so she could turn it in that way. A. had just been sharing it with the teacher, also fine, and marking the assignment done manually.

Anyway, I love fun classwork that accomplishes a bunch of goals all at the same time, especially when they are not particularly frustrating. This was a really good one!

A. had ordered Sonic the Hedgehog; she is watching it now.

I had a great phone convo with J., delayed from yesterday for scheduling issues.
