I had a nice, but abbreviated, phone convo with K.
I had a delightful lunch at Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza with R. I really like their Italian Old Fashioned. And their wings. Their pizza is also tasty.
I went to an IEP meeting for A. Despite a recent week of meltdowns, everyone still really enjoys working with her, and considers the current placement a success. We will do the 3 year re-eval next month. Or thereabouts.
I had a visit from M., but we did not walk because the weather was really kinda gross.
I finished reading the latest Jeaniene Frost novel, _Wicked Bite_. Let me just saying, boy, howdy is that a heckuva cliffhanger at the end of that book.
SPOILERS AHEAD
This is another Ian / Veritas (Ariel) book. Ian definitely gets his memory back (yay!), first in pieces, and then quite comprehensively, along with a really nifty weapon that he steals off of what is believed to be the dead body of Cain (but which might possibly be resurrectable), at the behest of someone that turns out to be the half-brother of Ariel. Soap opera!
The weapon proves to be important in the climactic battle with Dagon (and Ereshki). But before Dagon dies, he calls the cops, creating an interesting little conundrum for the Veritas half of Veritas (Ariel). And none of that has anything at all to do with the cliffhanger part. Like, except for what happens between when the cops show up and when Ian summons Veritas (Ariel) out of the abandoned lodge, there would be no resolution, just boat loads of bloody battles that are ultimately successful, followed by a delightful happy ever after.
But no. No, it is not to be. Because it turns out that there is More Family Soap Opera! I am pretty sure that will be in the next book.
There is even more set up for soap opera. Bones and Cat appear in this book, and we hear about their daughter but she is not onscreen (unless you count the fake execution video that is mentioned and watched at one point). But she is important, because she has the characteristics that the Cain sect are looking for to try to resurrect desiccated Cain with.
With Dagon and Ereshki apparently really and truly out of the picture, it looks like that, plus the sparkly guy who showed up briefly at the end, are going to be key to the next entry. Which means there is going to be a lot of demigod action. Fun! Probably. Overpowered characters can be tricky to write.
