Thursday: We Have Been Away Long Enough
Aug. 22nd, 2019 11:00 pmToday, my second cousin started his new job! So no more playing tourist with us. I am so happy that he has successfully transitioned. He likes the new place and he has exciting new things to do. Also, my second cousin once removed received her grades and they are everything she could have hoped for. Congratulations F.!
A. really wanted to swim in the hotel pool, so R. took her over to do that and I got the first alone time I had all trip. Very nice!
I tried the vegan option for the hotel breakfast. The tofu sausage was ... tofu sausage, and I mostly leave that stuff alone because I have zero problems with the way tofu sausages and burgers go down it is the way they come out that leaves a lot to be desired. TMI, sorry! The mushroom and half tomato were tasty. The potato scone is something I would have called a potato pancake. The spinach and peas were great.
We had lunch at the Figs Brasserie (hotel pub). I ordered the sweet chili beef stir fry and it was tasty. I had a half pint of the amber ale (forgotten the name of it already). T. had pasta. I asked them to make A. a chicken breast filet, just popped out of the package and into oil or butter or whatever and NOTHING else done to it, nothing else on the plate and they totally delivered! She ate almost the whole thing. I need to remember that — so far, whenever we ask for JUST chicken, completely plain, we get all kinds of other things, but not what we are trying to get.
Dinner for the kids was McDonalds; I snacked on things out of the bag of food, on the theory that we might lose it on entry to the US.
I could not convince anyone to want to do anything, so other than the swimming and the outing to McDonalds, we stayed in and nosed down into devices. We visited my cousins around 7 for a little more than an hour. I am so sad we will not be seeing them for who knows how long! They are entirely adorable and I feel like I have known them for much longer than a few days.
