Sunday: In Which We Depart
Aug. 11th, 2019 11:00 pmWe were picked up as usual by Boston Carriage — nice driver, unfamiliar to me, quiet. The ride to the airport was completely uneventful. We saw buses lined up on bridges over the highway near the Fenway, but we were passing through as people were streaming out of the game to go home, not while everyone was driving in or driving out. Convenient! And totally unplanned. I never check game schedules when planning a trip altho maybe I should!
We got through security without any particular mishaps. We stopped at the Burger King for dinner, even tho we would be having dinner on the plane I figured that would be late no matter what, and sometimes might wind up even later.
Which it did. We had a significant delay (about an hour) before boarding. A very nice young woman who is a soccer player wound up chatting with me for a while. She was headed to Uganda with Soccer Without Borders. If she is at all representative of that organization, they must be fantastic.
A. has a significant escalator phobia (this is a huge understatement). I did not realize that there would be an escalator in the boarding process (sigh) so did not ask to board earlier. When we realized, even tho we were in the first boarding group, we were just about the last people to board, as we had to wait for someone to walk us through a maze to get there. Once on board, we settled in, and things moved along well from there.
Service was great, and our cabin attendant absolutely supported my efforts to speak Dutch and even tho he would switch to English when I had no idea what he was asking, he went back to Dutch every time. What a lovely man! And since this was a KLM operated flight, we got the little houses! I was so excited. I had read about them but never received one (seen the display in Schiphol, etc.). To have four is fantastic!
I drank Aberfeldy (sp?) and it was tasty. The meal was fine. The Kokoon headphones work great. A., as always, had a lot of trouble getting to sleep, which was a bummer. Oh well!
