walkitout: (Default)
I ran a bunch of errands. M. visited in the morning while it was raining, so we stayed in, but I went for a walk later on. I walked to McT to pick up A., and we walked back. It was a little windy at that point, but got a whole lot more windy later.

I did make it to the grocery store, because we were out of T.’s yogurt, and I really didn’t want an instant replay of last weekend’s hangry fueled meltdown (I was a participant, as was T.).

I did a little vacation planning.

When I went for my walk by myself, I bought some music on iTunes first. Wow, Mike Posner’s _A Real Good Kid_ for real starts with an intro that says if you don’t have 40 uninterrupted minutes to listen to this whole thing in one go (not his words), he “politely” (his word) asks you to turn it off until you do. Safe thing to ask for, because you’ve already bought the album! OTOH, I applaud AOR, and love it when artists take some of the esteem they have carefully built up over time and expend in on a Big Ask of their adoring audience to play along while they do something risk. And I did — I listened to the whole thing, first while walking, then while sitting and playing FarmVille 2: Country Escapse (almost certainly NOT what Young Posner had in mind).

It’s pretty good. Which is to say, parts of it are really amazing (“Stuck in the Middle” is a remarkable song), and parts of it are stunningly precious (<— that is _not_ a compliment) and there are moments that are straight up cringe-inducing, because they are a weird mashup of amazing and precious. There is one moment where Posner is screaming how It Is Not All Fine (he is 30, has been working for some years now, and is a multimillionaire and it _should_ be all fine and it is _not_ all fine). That is perhaps the best example of, this is amazing AND precious <— not in a good way, and cringe inducing, all at once. It’s a good thing I don’t ever have to be 30 again. I am so done with that. Hopefully, Posner will not do anything rash, and will stick around long enough to be 50, so he can look back on this album with a sad chuckle and go, wow. Yeah, that was a whole lot of intensity I experienced back then.

Side note: I don’t know if it is particularly believable to say that the day your daddy died is the day you became a man. But, since I am not a man, and my male parent is still alive, I’m not sure that my opinion is particularly relevant.

I don’t know if I recommend the album. But if it sounds interesting, set aside 40 minutes and give it a listen and let me know what you think, because I’m curious. Which means it is probably a really good album, weird, cringe-inducing and preciosity and all.

I also bought the Meghan Trainor EP? Album? Love Train. As always, if you pay too much attention to her lyrics, they can really skeeve you out, but I do love her bouncy delivery and her pretty, pretty voice. Also, she does not ask you to listen to it all in one go, but if you bothered to get her music, you probably will, because what the hell could possibly stop you from doing so, once you started it?

I also bought Ariana Grande’s thank you, next album but have not yet listened to it.
