Today, we caravaned to Yellowstone. We successfully upgraded our single park ticket to Grand Teton to a National Parks Pass. When my sister’s family tried to do this, they happily discovered that B. is eligible for a lifetime free pass. Pretty cool! We probably should have stopped at Grant Village for lunch, but we powered through to Canyon Village arriving right around noon. Our rooms were not ready (they would not ultimately be ready until 4:30 p.m. and we wouldn’t get to check in until after dinner), so we ate lunch at the Grill and Fountain and spent the half hour wait looking at merch.

We then went to Mud Fountain and Sulphur Springs. Normally, I would assume this would be no go for A., however, when we drove through she said she liked the smell. Alas! It was a prime fakeout! I got her all the way around the loop, but it was a close run thing. Many, many, many meltdowns. Oh well!

We had dinner at 4:30 (reservation) at M66. The food and beverages were good, altho not quite as awesome as the restaurant(s) at Signal Mountain Lodge. The bartender was wonderful and came round to chat and showed us a bottle of cardamom bitters from Bainbridge Island that a customer had given him (Sweet Life Farm carries them at least part fo the time — these are Dr. Bob’s Bitters from Washington State NOT Bob’s Abbott’s Bitters from the UK).

Because this is a hotel with a lobby and airlock style doors, no bugs! Yay! LEED silver certification leads (har de har har) to some odd details. We were initially confused by the must put card here to use power feature (I knew about this, but had never personally experienced it). And the day was hot enough that we were missing the AC that is not available in the park. I didn’t give a crap about the no TV (no one did, really), but the only internet was in the lobby, and it was pretty sketchy. Of course, even that did not put an end to the internet dependency most of our group exhibited. Oh well! Soundproofing is excellent, and A. and I had a room to ourselves, so we were happy. Not necessarily everyone else. Laundry in building, and no bugs there, either.

The mini fridge was at room temp and had to be set to chill, but it chilled super fast. I approve! I love the idea of being able to have mini fridges without the crazy power drain of the old skool dorm fridge.
