I got a walk in the evening! There was a break in the thunderstorms, and the temperature had dropped a lot, so I got a long walk by myself. That was lovely!

I listened to the latest Invent Like an Owner, with Neil Roseman and Jorrit van der Meulen (possibly spelled that wrong). I know Neil; I never met van der Meulen. It’s a really great episode about the DVD rental business Amazon had in the UK (never knew about that!), how it was run as a largely separate entity, how they developed a subscription payments service within the then-new services architecture, and that that was eventually used for many other things like Prime. They also talked a little about other companies / organizations they worked at and how values from Amazon informed their experiences there. This episode felt unusually rich and detailed to me, possibly because Roseman and van der Meulen both move very easily between technical details, market constraints and business structure, and can really articulate clearly how they mutually influence each other.

I also listened to the Smart Podcast, Trashy Books episode about Gretchen McCulloch’s book, _A Cheese Plate is Technology: Because Internet_, which was delightful and insightful. I also tried the pronouns episode of McCulloch and Gawne’s podcast, Lingthusiasm. I also listened to the Smart Podcast recent episode about poison clusters. And I finally found and watched the Youtube production of Sarah Rae Brown’s Azathoth Solves All Your Problems For You.

Why so many podcasts? Because I’m still working on Lego World Map.

I also had a great convo with my sister, mostly about Adam Minters books, which she recently read, and I read a while ago. And I had a lovely zoom with I.

Jorrit was a couple years after me at That School. Not that I remember much except the name.
