Tuesday: throwing away food

I had a lovely text chat with I.; we will have a zoom tomorrow.
I had a great phone convo with J.
I had a great phone convo with K. — we talked about children’s / YA lit and the problem of parents, and how so many of them “solve” the problem of parents by killing the parents off in the backstory, and how so many of the books we really liked didn’t do that and how we wish there was more of that (we are big fans of the magic portal to another place that the kid wanders through).
I finally threw away (put in compost) some vegetables in the freezer that were badly freezer burned. I did this as a side project to throwing away today’s batch of soft pretzels. Alas, they were in the baking soda bath a little too long and the resulting metallic flavor, once you eat even part of one, lingers for hours. We have discussed what went wrong and the next batch will involve a different approach entirely, and I think we are going to actually just trying making hamburger buns, which is what the earlier batch of pretzels turned into and were super tasty.
