It is pretty difficult to project what the future will look like. However, when the future is exceptionally foggy, the potential payoff for correctly anticipating it can be that much greater.

Some of the articles making the rounds about WFH indefinitely / forever are about life work balance.

I have no idea what is going on with that headline either. Good luck figuring it out.

This is a pretty old school article, with a long-ish leadin: When I Started Working From Home, I Did Not Know How to Create Work Structure And It Sucked Learn From My Experience.

I love these articles, in much the same way that I love organizing, decluttering, time management, project planning type articles: tips and tricks! Ooooh, clever ideas! These articles are NOT written for me! I get it.

Anyway.

The author describes ditching the defined work hours first accidentally, and then with intentionality. He also notes that there are aspects to working from home that could work really well with parenting ... but not if bosses demand workers to produce at all hours of the day and night. It really is a pretty good overview! It is low on the tips and tricks that draw me to these articles, but very timely.

Exceptional quotes:

“And when work does slow down, I try not to spin my wheels: I go for a walk, I play with my dogs. If something pops up at night, it doesn’t feel as soul-crushing when you haven’t spent the day chained to the computer.”

“Offices are bullies. They force us to orient our days around commutes; commandeer our attention with (sometimes lovely!) unscheduled, drive by meetings; and enforce toxic dynamics like trying to look busy or staying until the boss leaves. All those weird quirks are ported over to the remote work world, but they can be quickly silenced by closing your laptop, even if just for a few moments.”

Worth the read.
