T. had a half day. I picked up A., turned her over to the sitter, walked with M., then took T. over to the high school track to do a timed 4 lap / 1 mile run. His goal was to do it in under 14 minutes, in order to qualify to run in the Mayor’s Cup (kids race). He did it in about 11.5, so no problems there. He had not been running that fast last Sunday, and his coach was unhappy with him. This cheered everyone up.

We took the train into North Station and walked over to Boston Beer Works. T. navigated, but stopped one restaurant short, leading me to say, this isn’t Boston Beer Works. A kindly passing young man said, it’s the next one and off we went. I had their “Woodworks” and then a perfect manhattan (up with a twist, of course). The Woodworks is a wheat, a rye and chartreuse, with ango and orange bitters. It’s weird but good; I may try to reproduce it at home.

T. left his ear protection at the restaurant, and said so just as we were about to scan our tickets in. So we reversed, got the ear protection, then came back to TD Garden. No worries, lots of time before the opening DJ Freestyle Steve. We even had plenty of time / no line on getting T. a t-shirt. Francesco Yates was okay, nothing amazing. Lots and lots of people on stage for the main show, which did not start until 9, then ran to 11 and no encore. We caught the 12:10 home. Staging is among the best I’ve ever seen. Rather than run a runway down the middle or a T, they had a trail, with a dip, and then at the far end space for a campfire in one section and a meadow in the other. The screens were transparent, so you could watch the performers but also sort of see through them. It’s a neat effect and they used it well. The dancing was excellent. Low-key / low-ego, troupe oriented choreography, very crisp without being too machined. Varied body shapes, ages in the performers — lots of diversity. A very enjoyable show.

The security guy who checked my handbag complimented me on it. It’s the Banned Alternative peekaboo bat bag I got in Salem on Monday.
