I'm sure they had fun. But. Here is the subhead:
"The souped-up electric car from the '70s will blow the doors off a Tesla Model S."
Here is the only stat in the article I find which is better than on a Tesla:
"It ran the 1/4 mile in 10.84 seconds"
According to http://www.zeroto60times.com/vehicle-make/tesla-0-60-mph-times/fast-slow-quarter-mile/, the best Tesla model S time for the quarter mile is:

".06" seconds on the quarter mile != "blow the doors off".
Thanks for playing Ars. You should lean heavily on the verb "will". Maybe someday, this entertaining jalopy will in fact go faster than a Tesla. Altho I sort of suspect then Tesla, if they cared, would just adjust the speed limiting in the software.
It's a fun article, and I like people doing this stuff with electric cars. We need tinkerers and this kind of obnoxiousness to build car culture around EVs.
