John H. Wood really doesn't get into a lot of detail about the initial chartering of the Bank of England and the events which required it to be separate from the Exchequer. So reading _Lombard Street_, I was a little surprised to run across more information about the Great Stop of the Exchequer.

I'm not sure why, exactly, that never seems to get mentioned in explanations of the Stuarts and that whole sequence of Revolutions, but it _really ought to be_. I think it may have been _very important_.

I find history rewarding and fascinating. Historians, I have my doubts about. They have their own ideas about what is important and influential and quite often I really disagree with them.
