mumps? No way. . .hmmm
Mar. 9th, 2007 09:38 pmFor the last week, I've had a swollen gland in a slightly unusual spot. It recently seemed to get better, but now my cheek has been sore. And I think it's actually the same gland/duct, just a little higher up in it. If I'm right, I have parotitis (swollen tropical bird? Nope.), or inflammation of the parotid gland. Hopefully, this is just leading up to some straightforward head cold. (PND? Check.) (OTOH, dry eye on that side. Hmmmm.)
But mumps is an outside possibility. One side of my face is looking a little swollen, but so far way too subtle to be mumps. OTOH, mumps can be asymptomatic. And we know that if I ever was immune, I probably am not any more.
I'm trying to decide how I feel about this. Mostly, it's annoying that it hurts to smile, to yawn, and to lay my head down on that side. And worrisome, because this has never happened to me before. R. says he's had that gland swell up with viruses on rare occasions over the years -- he says about 1 in 10 of his colds results in pain in that approximate location.
