Is there a typical procedure for this? I know the title, the author, the year, and the university (Leiden, in the Netherlands). I did a little digging on their website, but I'm not seeing anything obvious and I'm not sure I'm looking in the right places. If I knew the general procedure for this, it might help. I know people have gotten copies, because Olive Tree genealogy has yanked ship's lists out of it (which is, of course, why I want the book, too).

You ought to be able to do this via interlibrary loan. Ideally, you would have the dissertation number (approximately the equivalent of an isbn book number).

If it is relatively recent, you could also try contacting the author.

You may be paying microfilm copying charges, if they don't have it in hard-copy, and you may be waiting for months for an international ILL.

If it's available through Proquest, this is what you'd want, I think: http://www.proquest.com/assets/downloads/products/DissOrderForm.pdf

You can request a free trial of the database to see if it has what you want, or perhaps a local library subscribes.
