Books Books Books!
Sep. 4th, 2006 05:12 pmI read Jerry Avorn's _Powerful Medicines_ (might not be plural). Avorn is brilliant, but a complete tool. The correct conclusion is not, get people on the right meds, assess meds objectively, etc. The correct conclusion is: meds should only be used temporarily and when all else fails. Hypertension drugs should be a stopgap until diet and exercise work (and for those people who, even with perfect diet and exercise, still have dangerously high blood pressure). Ditto for a wide range of other things we prescribe willy-nilly, for decades at a time, and then suffer from new/more dangerous/less effective competition and/or just plain nasty side effects and/or poor compliance.
Whatever.
More importantly Books Books Books! I handed Teddy some of his board books while I was packing up the books on the last two bookcases and he was riveted! Fascinated! Keeps bringing them to us to read to him! Yes! Teddy loves books! Not just to chew on, no, to have someone turn pages and say things! And, of course, do the drums for Hand Hand Fingers Thumb (thanks to K. for this recommendation).
Books!
I _love_ that my son loves _books_!
Okay, I'll calm down now. Books! Some time soon!
R. just got back from the walk. Apparently the first time Teddy fell asleep, he did so with his eyes open, which confused him into offering water and inadvertantly waking him up. We've hit _that_ stage.
