We had 6 people today, and A. mostly stayed in her room. Curiously, R. stuck it out pretty well. I was impressed! We all had a nice time, and we sat down exactly at 3 pm, which was weird.
The pies that C. brought were super tasty (a blueberry and an apple, from Rice Fruit Farm in Wilbraham, so if that’s an option for you, I recommend them). The squash I cooked a few days ago became soup, and it was good. The marshmallow on sweet potatoes turned out the way I remembered it from decades ago, and C. seemed to think it tasted right. It was really good, but I still like the spicy version without the marshmallows better. I really should try the spicy version with marshmallows. I just haven’t worked up the nerve to do that, because it might be so good it would be hard to do it any other way after.
The cole slaw was good. The stuffing was good (no real takers on the simpler stuffing, but we made inroads on the good one). The bird was great — Walden Local Meat, 300 for 4 hours (16 pound bird). I put a little chopped fennel in the cavity but that was it. I made pan gravy with flour and white wine. The white wine really does help.
I sent everyone home around 6 pm, because they have a long drive and dogs on the other end of it. Also, I feel like it’s best not to continue until things go sideways. T. hung out a bit longer and set up a T-day family zoom so we got to chat with R.’s aunt briefly.
A really pleasant day.
ETA: I walked with M.
