Two pickups already this morning and it’s still morning! I had a Kobalt tool chest of drawers that I’d been emptying out over time, and I finally decided it was gonna go. I knew it would generate a lot of interest, so I decided to include in the post that people would need to help muscle it out of the basement (in the event, R. and I got it up the stairs and out to the garage ourselves, where we could roll it out to the driveway), and then I didn’t tell anyone it was theirs until they coughed up a date and a time of day — and I wasn’t taking “morning”, I wanted a specific time. People rarely show up at the time they say, but people who state a time are more likely to show up at all than people who waffle on specifying a time.

Anyway, the guy who showed up reminded me a ton of the camping guy. Brought a nice young woman about his age. They got it loaded up from the driveway to a completely cleared up back of the pickup truck (that had a cover, and a moving blanket) on their own. He was later than originally specified because of the need to clear out the truck, but he was good about updates, polite and really good presentation. I gotta say, the kids these days really give me hope for the future. I love the idea there are young people out there putting together a really nice life by figuring out what it is they want, and then pursuing multiple paths to getting it, rather than giving up, or paying more than they can afford or whatever.

Last night’s drill (also popular, as it was a Makita) generated my first post-purchase, hey why doesn’t this work. I’ve been dreading those, so I usually make sure I test before I list. But these were from R., and I knew the batteries would require charging and I could not be bothered. He was very nice about it, and I added to the other listing that I couldn’t guarantee personally that it still worked. Which apparently bumped the listing and someone inquired about it so we’ll see.

Someone came to pick up the Food Saver Jar Sealing accessories. She has a Food Saver, and is going to experiment and see if these work with her equipment. She was genial, and fun to chat with.

I’m starting to feel like I’m running the remote version of a yard sale, but where everything is free. I feel like the people coming by are all the types of people I remember from when my family of origin used to go “garage saling”. It’s never tempted me as an activity — seemed like a lot of work. And yet here I am. I think it helps a lot that people are coming by one (or two) at a time. And that I don’t have to make change. When I was young, I didn’t really appreciate just how sociable a garage sale could be, but it’s really clear now.

ETA:

I’ve been sorting through the craft shelves and taking pictures and putting them in boxes. Not sure if I’ll do one enormous lot, or 2 or more. I may just text the woman who picked up all the markers and such and ask if she wants them.
