I did not realize that A.’s last class ended at 3:30 today, nor did I notice that her English class was canceled. I could have brought her in, waited until she finished Geometry, and then taken her back home. Oh well! In the event, I went and got her around 1:30.

I had a delightful phone convo with K.

I walked with M.

I had a delightful phone convo with JC, and we have established a 2 week cadence for future calls. I am super excited about this!

FF was fun. A. looked at the entry in wikipedia for Tryophobia (don’t do this) and then searched for more examples images (REALLY don’t do that) and then needed a lot of reassurance.

I put a couple large dollops of sourdough into a bowl of stew and nuked it until the dough as cooked. It was unbelievably yummy.

I finished the Dray / Lucy / Bane entry in Michelle Diener’s Class 5 series. There is so much Anne McCaffery in these books. There’s the overall structure of women kidnapped from Earth, then rescued by other people who they then hook up with, which is Restoree. But there are also overtones of The Ship Who Sang, with the AI that can survive the destruction of its ship and go run Larga Ways, and then all the Earth women who sing all the time. Not exactly The Ship Who Sang, but vibes. And then all these Earth women hooking up with other species hot guys feels super Catteni. In the Fiona book, when she’s way out on the arm fixing the gel wall, and the AI and Grih guy rescue her, it feels so bizarrely Luke on the gantry. Tons of fun allusions.

When I first started watching Stargate SG-1, I really hated that the main characters get killed off in nearly every episode (they always come back, tho). But after a while, I kind of got into it (because they kept coming back). Similarly, I do not love the woman being kidnapped thing, but in the Diener Class 5 series, I’m really started to perceive it very, very differently.
