Today, Priestess and I went to Salem! We went to Professor Spindlewink’s. It was adorable. I mean, look, this thing is obviously aimed at a much younger audience, and is probably best understood as what would happen if you made up your own IP because you didn’t want to license TERF-adjacent IP, and rather than having a ride or whatever, you just did medium-quality queue design and sold tickets to experience it. We loved it.
We were planning lunch at Flying Saucer, but the doors were locked (even tho the host stand was out front) so around 12:20, we decided that the Blue Fez, a Moroccan restaurant next door, smelled fantastic. Our server was adorable. We got two appetizers: the Mosaic plate, which is a little bit of lots of different things, and the Chakchouka and Zaalouk, which was grilled bread with tasty stuff on top. We also got some bread with oil and olives, and the server brought out the housemade hot stuff (which was absolutely delightful). I had two amaro manhattans; Priestess had the sangria. By the time we were halfway through, we were wondering why I ever thought it was a good idea to go to the Flying Saucer. Now, mind you, you can get vegan ranch on a salad a the Flying Saucer, which is its one delightful experience. And I will go back, but it’s gonna be a bit of a struggle deciding between the two. Oh well! Problems we love to have.
We went to Cute Shops. Priestess got a delightful hat at Coons. (I bought a planchette there, not because I on any level needed one, but Salem is never about need. It’s about an entire town of That Cute Witchy Shop, and in most touristy towns there is only the one Cute Witchy Shop.) I got my hat at Professor Spindlewink’s but it’s the same witch hat that everyone was wearing this season (I got it in purple). I bought a necklace at the Silversmith’s, and Priestess got a couple of rocks. We got R. safe hot sauces at Pampelmousse AND I bought A. the holiday countdown chocolates for Halloween (advent box, but Halloween). Priestess got a really cute dress at Modern Millie’s. Finally, I bought a broom at the Apothecary shop. The server said the tarot readings there were good, but they were short staffed, so no reading. We did browse the pop up PEM shop “The Bat Box”.
Salem has really taken it up a notch since my last visit. We had a really enjoyable time. I made sure we got there by 10, so that we could be confident of getting a parking space, and we noticed that Museum Place garage did indeed fill up later on in the day. We left around 3:30 or so. There was a fair amount of traffic returning home, but we got home before 5 pm.
