In Which We Return Home
Nov. 26th, 2022 11:00 pmCheckout from Marriott Courtyard (at least the one in West Orang) is at noon, and we already knew that our hosts adult offspring had had friends over late, so we slept in. We packed up, checked out and headed over around 10:30. No one was up when we arrived — R.’s cousin had left earlier in the day, so they’d been up and cleaned some already and then gone back to bed, because they are sensible people — so we got ourselves some breakfast. After a bit, people showed up, continued cleaning, chatted, and started packing up leftovers for us. Mmmmm. Truly, a really wonderful holiday weekend, full of good food, games, and great company.
The drive home was mostly uneventful, altho there was about an hour of backup in Massachusetts leading up to where we switch to 90. Oh well!
We had lunch in Danbury, at Prime Pub. It was really good. They have a couple DF options marked on the menu, so I was able to order the fish and chips without having to ask a lot of questions. Delightful! I love fish and chips and cole slaw and so often I can’t have them and it takes a while to figure that out, so it’s nice to get to have it and not have it be tedious for anyone.
I unpacked. I did laundry. I went through the mail. I did a long walk and talked to my sister. She’s decided not to blog after all. She said she sorted through why she was thinking of blogging, concluded it was to try to retain connections to a bunch of people who weren’t being super proactive (not her words) about staying in touch with her, and that she didn’t actually have anything to say. I pushed back on the not having anything to say, but agreed that she might well not want to be saying it to randos online. I also asked her where she was spending her time on social media and prompted with reddit. That is indeed where she is trend-following, and she also uses reddit and YouTube to learn how to do resale on eBay better. In passing, she remarked that the blog idea was because she was planning for the end of Facebook. (!!!)
It is interesting to see the weirdly stealthy dominance of Reddit. I did start to wonder how they were paying the bills. They have ads, and they also have a premium tier … of $50 a year, that gets you an ad-free experience. Seems plausible.
