Monday: Happy Diwali!
Oct. 24th, 2022 09:44 pmI feel like I should say something about the UK celebration of Diwali involved extra special celebration because of their new PM, so let’s pretend I did say something along those lines and the tone was the perfect, judicious mix of, yay, diversity and cautious optimism that this PM choice will turn out better than the last few, while also not sounding excessively uninformed and/or naive.
Moving on!
No school and no homework this long weekend because Diwali. I was going to schedule something for A., because she does get bored, and I encouraged her to make plans with friends but friends were apparently not available, and she was kinda frazzled over the weekend and asking for more time to just relax and read so I didn’t schedule anything. This worked great up to about 4 pm or so when she decided she was bored. Oh well! By then, too late — I had book group. I had been thinking maybe go out to dinner, but then I remembered book group, and I had a late lunch and, whatever. I made burgers for them. Also, in addition to TikTok, I had A. help me make some dinner reservations for upcoming travel, so that was moderately entertaining.
Book group was fun — we discussed _Odd Girl Out_, and there were 6 of us which is one more than generally, so, yay! We also picked a half dozen or so books for upcoming months so hopefully this will get us a bit ahead of the curve and we can feel like planning is successful, assuming it is.
I vacuumed most of the downstairs. I’d done the upstairs bathrooms over the weekend. Things look marginally better. I finished Lego Haunted House. I mis-assembled the base of the ride vehicle and that took a while to figure out. It wasn’t working correctly because the sign on the front of the vehicle was catching and it took me a little poking around to work out why. But it’s very cool!
I’m pretty excited that the kids are back in school tomorrow. I had a visit with M. We didn’t walk because it’s been raining off and on. I’m starting to get a little antsy because of not much walking for two days. Tomorrow should be better, tho.
It’s been kind of a tough few days for my in-laws. FIL has been having some issues and it is just not clear how that’s going to go. One of the SILs will be going down soon, and there are some planned phone calls to access more helping resources. It’s a good plan, and in all likelihood things will settle into a new routine soon. Fingers crossed, anyway.
