I was really trying to get A. to school today, but we switched to Can We Do Zoom at 9:50 am. And yes, we can! However, wifi in the new room sucks, so we had to rearrange the living room for 10:30 dance and wifi in the living room wasn’t great either so there was a lot of freezing going on — and that was AFTER we got her credentials fixed for school zoom. *sigh* Oh well!

Anyway. She got about half her dance class, which is probably all she had energy for anyway, so it mostly worked out. Her class tomorrow is rescheduled to be earlier in the day (since she only has the one class). She’s got a homework cafe right now, and then lunch, and then a couple classes this afternoon.

In the meantime, I’m still coughing. In theory, I may get to pick up my car today, which is exciting. I canceled Dutch tomorrow (because coughing).

ETA:

Lots of airline related news coverage, mostly because of the TSA funding issue and increasing woes or expectations of woes. Some absolutely bonkers stories about people choosing to fly, rather than drive.

https://www.wsj.com/business/airlines/clear-tsa-lines-dhs-shutdown-da62b85d

“John Mayhew registered for Clear a few years ago because it was a free perk on his credit card. The 40-year-old information-technology consultant from the Charlotte, N.C., area travels frequently for work and said he felt more comfortable traveling this month because he had the service.

Next week, though, he is flying to Atlanta, and he has been following reports of long lines at the airport.

“We’ll see how that goes,” he said. “It may just be worth the four-hour drive.””

That’s not that crazy, honestly? I mean, I would drive. When I went to buy plane tickets to go to RavenCon, I couldn’t find a return flight time that I liked at a reasonable price with seats available so I just said fuck it, I will drive. That’s a 9 hour drive. Each way. For a long weekend. I’ve got a wide range of I could fly or I could drive, depending on other constraints, and with only one other participant (or possibly doing this alone) not to mention a desire to have a vehicle on the other end, and all parties being more or less adult, well, long drive is fine.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/2026/03/26/american-airlines-flight-bus-ride/

This one, however, is _wild_. Amtrak has bus legs that look like train legs if you are not paying attention since forever, and I don’t book them (altho I do sometimes wind up on them anyway, but that’s a whole other matter). I was entertained to learn that airlines were doing them, too. I was less entertained why I realized the length.

“ Woodard-Jones, an engineer, lined up at the gate in South Bend, Indiana, and that’s when things got confusing. A bus sat outside, with workers loading bags underneath. She figured the bus would take them to the plane. But the American Airlines-branded motor coach rolled down the tarmac and off airport property.”

So, she had to go _all the way through TSA security_ to get on a bus. That sucks. But it was for maybe a hundred mile drive? And it looks like there are train options that aren’t totally nuts? I kind of wonder what she paid for it, because I put that into Uber and got an UberX quote from South Bend Airport to Ohare for $150. I mean, she could have gotten a comparable deal from her house without the TSA line? Flip side, if they don’t make her redo TSA on arrival to Ohare, this might just be a super clever way to avoid a very long line at Ohare?

ETAYA: Comments include folks who have done this and they confirm you do NOT have to go through security again, so exactly like a connecting flight NOT like a multi-modal transfer. Totally worth it and I hope this becomes common.
