Today, A. and I hauled our dirty clothes over to Lavoir St Ursule. I forgot my room key and had to go back because I also forgot jackets and it was kinda chilly still. I also forgot laundry detergent, but usually in commercial laundries there is enough residual and most of the work is done by the laundry anyway so I just kept going. It mostly was fine. I had planned to go to La Maison de la Literature, however, I instead took A. and myself over to Le Petit Coin Latin, and ordered us some food. I had a Bahn Mi and it was really good. A.’s grilled cheese was on onion bread (didn’t see that coming and didn’t consciously realize what the problem was until I brought it home to R. and he couldn’t eat it either altho I think he peeled the cheese out because the cheese was good). Oh well! She had a brownie and an apple juice and the cafe had a bathroom and wifii so it was a comfy spot to hang out while the clothes traveled in circles.
We had dinner (all five of us!) at Trois Garcons, which was really good. They made me a Rob Roy when I asked for a Manhattan and it was tasty. They used Te Bheag which I’d never had before, so I got a serving of that after and it is really, really nice. I’ll need to buy a bottle. I had the fish and chips — I have not found other than awesome fish and chips in Quebec yet! — and A. had the kids chicken fingers and ate the whole thing. It’s been tough getting her things that aren’t spices in a way that she is okay with. It’s been tough even getting a plain burger for her. I. and L. walked over and saw the hotel with us, and then I walked back and saw theirs (Hotel du Vieux-Quebec). Lots of great art by J. Zhou, which does not have any little price card next to it. They’re great, tho. https://koymangalleries.com/artist/jack-zhou/ We also made a brunch plan and reservations at noon at La Buche.
There are fireworks every few days in August, that we heard early in our stay but R. and I went outside to watch today. They were nice. This hotel is quite strict about not letting non-guests in. They wanted to see a key when I went back inside. To be fair, I was wearing a hoodie at that point with the hood up.
I got mostly packed up for tomorrow.
