Tuesday: charger, Smith cafe croissant
Aug. 20th, 2024 01:25 pmR. and I went over to Smith Cafe and I had a regular croissant with no apparent ill effects. So I’m thinking I can just say butter is fine when dining out from now on? I had an americano, because I wasn’t clear on whether there was filtered coffee (there was) or soy milk (ditto). It was all very fine. I had a taste of R.’s croissant with almonds and it was like marzipan in there. Yummy.
We met up with I. and L. briefly, and found a Jean Coutu and got I. a replacement charging block since one of hers quit working. They went off to the art museum and R. and I returned to the hotel to get A. up, showered, and next up is a late lunch for us. We stopped in the Episcopal Cathedral, which was nice, and walked through the stalls and I bought lilac felt evening bag. Very cute! We also stopped in Ziba earlier and looked at the many Moroccan style lamps. We’ll definitely buy one, but we haven’t decided for sure which one.
ETA:
I washed A.’s hair 4 or 5 times, and really aggressively tried to get every last bit of her scalp clean, which we often don’t do because she complains. Well, turns out the built up grease on the base of the hair is causing that pain so getting it reduced made a huge difference and didn’t even dry out her hair (!!!). My hands are definitely feeling all that shampoo, altho it was a shampoo bar, so not too bad all things considered. It apparently feels way better now. I’m just gonna treat this as like the escalator and the asparagus — unexpected benefits of a trip that otherwise sometimes feels like a massive imposition on her.
We went for a very belated brunch at L’Omelette. It was a true diner experience, right down to the server saying R.’s salad had extra onions on it. We felt truly welcome. A. wanted pancakes but by the time we placed our order, the grill was closed, so she got a waffle, and what a waffle it was, with sooooo much whipped cream. She had a side of bacon, and it was some of the best bacon I’ve ever had. I had the fish and chips, and the fish (one piece) was perfectly breaded and fried. The fries were fine. R. had a salad and a glass of pinot noir, which was both large and tasty.
